• How long will it take to receive my order?
• All 'Ready to Wear' items are in stock and will be shipped within 2 - 3 business days of purchase. If you place your order Friday through Sunday, your order won't be shipped until Tuesday/Wednesday of the following week.
• We hand make each of our 'Customizable' pieces on a first come, first serve basis. Because of this, there is about a 3 - 4 week lead time on these items. We do offer Rush Service for those of you who need your order sooner. CLICK HERE for details.
• I see you have some of the same designs in ‘Ready to Wear’ and ‘Customizable’ versions. What’s the difference?
Our ready to wear collars are made exactly the same way as the customizable ones - by hand, at our workshop in Los Angeles. The main differences are color choices, delivery times and return/exchange policies.

• Can I buy a California collar anywhere else?
Nope! There are currently only two places that you can buy a real California Collar - either here on this site or at our brick & mortar location in Los Angeles.
• Do you offer a warranty?
Of course! All of our items come with a lifetime guarantee. Should any buckles, d-rings or rivets fail, we'll repair them for free. Should the leather itself split or break from material defect, we will repair or replace your collar for free. If any spots, studs, crystals, gemstones, ornaments or name plates break, come loose or fall off, we'll fix those too!
This warranty covers defects in materials and craftsmanship only and does not cover normal wear and tear or damage caused by your dog or any other event beyond our control. Examples of normal wear and tear would be scratches or dings on crystals, ornaments or nameplates and/or the natural aging of leather, including stretching, scuffing or any color changes.
Examples of damage caused by your dog would be d-rings that have been broken or leather that has ripped due to misuse such as a collar/leash/harness used to tether a dog or items that have been chewed by your dog. The construction of our collars and harnesses makes it impossible to replace worn out linings. Because of this, there is no warranty available on that portion of our products.
** Please note that we do not cover shipping charges for items sent back to us for repair.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Our collars, leashes and harnesses are not designed to be used as 'tie out' gear. You'd be surprised how much force a dog can hit the end of a line with, especially if he sees a squirrel ;) Damage caused by using any off our products to tether a dog will not be covered by warranty.
We don't recommend tethering a dog due to excessive risk of loss, damage and injury. But if you are planning on tying your dog to an outdoor line, please be sure to purchase a gear that is designed specifically for that purpose.
• What is your refund / exchange policy?
IMPORTANT NOTE:
All return/exchange requests must be made via email to aftercare@californiacollarco.com. Our aftercare department will contact you within 24 hours of receipt of your request.
Any items returned to us that have been broken in, are creased, wrinkled, dirty or damaged will be returned to you and no refund or exchange shall be given. There are absolutely no exceptions to this or any of our other return/exchange policies.
'READY TO WEAR' ITEMS:
• RTW items can be returned for a full refund of purchase price (less shipping fees) within 14 days of delivery.
• If you'd like to exchange your RTW item, the cost of the RTW item will be applied toward the cost of the new item.
• Any items that have been worn or broken in are not eligible for refund or exchange.
'CUSTOMIZABLE' ITEMS:
• Due to their specialized nature, we can't issue full refunds on any of our customizable items.
• A 40% waste fee is charged on all returns, regardless of reason, and shipping fees are not refundable.
• If you wish to exchange your non-personalized item for a different color, style or size, a 20% exchange fee will apply.
• This exchange fee is independent of any price difference there might be between exchanged items.
• All return/exchange requests must be made within 14 days of delivery.
• Any items that have been worn or broken in are not eligible for refund or exchange.
'PERSONALIZED' ITEMS:
• We do not issue refunds or exchanges on personalized items of any kind unless a mistake is made on our end.
• Personalized items include ID Tags or any collar, harness or leash with a nameplate attached.
RETURN SHIPPING CHARGES: We do not cover shipping charges on returns or exchanges for any reason.
• Do you do any custom work?
Most of the items in our online shop are customizable, which means they come with and several color, hardware and lining options. All available options are located in the drop down menus on each item listing. Name plates can still be added to most of our designs, as long as there's enough room to squeeze one on there.
Due to time constraints, we no longer take any full custom requests. Examples of full custom requests would be:
• Products, materials or colors that you don't currently see in the shop
• The integration of hardware or ornaments we don't currently carry
• A change in the mechanical structure of any of our items
• Reproduction of someone else's work, especially that of a modern maker
While we no longer take custom requests through our site, visitors to our brick & mortar shop in Los Angeles have the freedom to change up our designs a bit to suit their needs. These changes are limited to the colors, ornaments and hardware that we currently carry.
• Are your collars waterproof?
The English bridle leather we use for our products is the same leather that is used in high end equestrian gear, so it's meant to take a beating. However, leather is a porous material and excessive water exposure can lead to bacteria and odor build-up deep within the fibers. In order to avoid stinky collar syndrome, we recommend our vegan + waterproof collars for dogs who like to spend time in the water.
Be aware that leather is a natural material and it will age more rapidly when repeatedly exposed to water. Using a waterproofer will slow down the aging process and help keep your leather looking its best. Wet leather also stretches, so we recommend removing the collar until it's dry to help it keep its shape. Removing the collar will also be much more comfortable for your dog - wearing a wet collar is kind of like sitting around in a wet pair of jeans ;)
The fine garment lambskin linings we use in our collars are definitely NOT waterproof. They will stand up to light water exposure (a walk in the rain, running through a stream, etc.) but will not last with repeated and excessive exposure to water.
• Will my collar be exactly the same as the one I saw on the website?
Each of our products are entirely handmade from scratch, so there may be a slight variation in the design from time to time. Nothing major, of course! But the handmade nature of our products means that no two items will be exactly the same.
Colors vary from monitor to monitor. And with leather being a natural product, it can pick up dye a little differently from piece to piece. Because of this, there is no guarantee that the "real life" color of your collar will be exactly what you see on your monitor.
